555 Admiralty Parade W.

This tribute to French architecture and landscape is also a reflection of the elegant and very much beloved lady who lived there. Entering from Admiralty Parade, one first notices that the grounds and the structure blend, in the French tradition, in an impressionistic palette of earthen colors … as if to say, “I have been here forever.” Upon opening the imposing front door, one is immediately taken by the soaring ceilings of the central living room … a space that serves well for glorious receptions. Again, in the highest French tradition, each room in the house has its own purpose and is arranged to serve that purpose. One senses that such rooms continue, even in our modern world, to be important to evolving an enlightened culture. The marvelous formal dining room with its beamed ceilings would make it an affront to bring anything but good conversation to the table. The room states, without need for articulation, “no cell phones or video games here! We are here to enjoy and learn from each other.” There are two rooms nestled to the East of the main living room. One is intimate, currently used for after dinner conversations with a few people or reading alone. Because of its full bathroom and walk in closet accommodations, it could easily be converted to an additional fourth bedroom. The other, with views overlooking the delightful garden and “Man of War Cove” beyond, is much larger and quite sophisticated, yet as with all of the rooms in the home, very comfortable. There are two other public rooms just beyond the main living room, each washed in an abundance of natural light. These rooms were designed to be successively more “casual chic.” As one walks from the family room to the Conservatory, one enjoys equally accommodating access from both spaces to the pool and pool decks on the West and to the terrace and gardens on the East side of the house. A cozy breakfast room is just off the kitchen. A wine cellar and pantry closets are almost hidden within the surrounding walls. Taking the elevator or the dramatic winding staircase to the second floor, one discovers an enchanting master bedroom with ample room to sit and relax comfortably and dressing areas sufficient to prepare for any occasion. From the master bedroom terrace there are strikingly long views over the water. Two other bedrooms well down the hall from the master bedroom are also French in conception and very inviting for guests or family. The gardens are exquisite and well maintained. The floating dock makes securing a vessel of significant size effortless.
